GES Optimistic WASSCE Results Will Be Released Before Year-End Amid Delays

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed optimism that the results of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will be released before the end of the year.

This announcement comes as students and their families eagerly await the results, which are crucial for their academic futures.Initially, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) had indicated that the results would be available between December 9 and 15, 2024.

However, delays have arisen due to financial constraints affecting WAEC’s operational capacity. The council is reportedly owed approximately GH₵118 million by the government, which has hindered its ability to process and release the results on time.As of mid-December, marking of essays and practicals was completed, but technical issues with the scanners used for processing objective test cards have stalled further progress.

WAEC officials have assured candidates that they are working diligently to resolve these challenges and release the results as soon as possible. The uncertainty surrounding the WASSCE results has caused significant anxiety among over 460,000 candidates who participated in the examination. For many students, these results will determine their eligibility for admission into tertiary institutions, making timely access to their scores critical.

Parents and educators are encouraged to stay updated through official channels as WAEC continues to navigate these challenges. The GES remains hopeful that a resolution will be reached soon, allowing students to receive their results and plan their next steps in education without further delay.
